DescriptionThe 'Leader' had been following her progress since May 1987, when it printed a picture of the Montapertos' prizewinning garden, and announced that Cathy needed a heart-lung transplant, which would cost $150 000; there were weekly reports on funds raised to date.
By November she and Vic were in London near her sister's, waiting; it was 14 months before a donor was found, and she had spent much of the latter part of that period on oxygen.
There had been a slight rejection, causing another two weeks in Harefield Hospital before she was discharged.
There may have been an article announcing the operation, but I haven't sighted it (Don McLeod).
