DescriptionGeorge had been born in Fiji; one of ten children; his mother was Samoan.
I did not note when they migrated to New Zealand.
George married Caroline Le Fevre in Mount Albert on April 14, 1938.
Two of his brothers were All Blacks.
After serving in Italy in WWII he trained as a carpenter, and then as a primary-school teacher (he had five sisters who were teachers).
He volunteered to serve in the Korean War, reaching the rank of Major, and was awarded a military M B E 1n 1953 for 'sterling qualities during a raid into enemy territory'.
He spent 1956-66 teaching in Fiji, and became Scholarships Officer for Fiji when he returned to New Zealand.
He had been president of the Upper Hutt Bowling Club, and the Upper Hutt Pakeke Lions.
