Description
This is part of a series of photos that were taken to document the rebuilding of the tube section of the Dunlop factory. These curing presses were opened and closed with compressed air, and were not considered all that safe as a loss of air pressure would result in the press closing unexpectedly. These were discarded when the presses from the Reidrubber factory that Dunlop took over became available. There were some more modern presses in the line, which were electrically operated, and much safer. The Leading Hand would walk down the moulding line on a regular basis and would take the cured tubes off the top shelf and inspect them for obvious defects. They then threw them onto trolleys to be taken to the inspection area.
