Getting started with Mahara Upper Hutt Community Archive
Welcome to Mahara Upper Hutt Community Archive.
Mahara Upper Hutt Community Archive is an online platform bringing together photos, documents, stories, and other taonga that reflect the history and people of our city.
Whether you’re researching your whānau, exploring local history, or simply curious about Upper Hutt's past, this is the place to start.
Explore the collection
You can discover items in several ways:
- Browse by category using the navigation menu (e.g. places, people, events, collections).
- Use the search bar at the top of the page to find specific names, topics, or keywords.
- Filter your results by date, location, or content type to narrow your search.
Each item includes a description and may have tags to help link it with related material.
Viewing and downloading
Most images and documents can be viewed directly online. If an item is available for download, you'll see a download button on its page. Please note that some material is protected by copyright or donor agreements. If you're unsure, contact us before using it.

Our archive grows through community contributions. If you have any of the below, we’d love to hear from you..
