Provenance
HistoryThe Choir's first title was 'The Upper Hutt Home and School Association Male Voice Choir'. It was founded on 21 August 1933 for the practice and performance of part songs and choruses for male voices. Women vocal and instrumental soloists participated from the start. On 4 June 1937 women joined the chorus for the first time for a Coronation Concert, but not as members.
Later in 1937 the choir became independent of the Home and School Association, as 'The Upper Hutt Male Choir'. The rules were changed to allow 'the choir, at the discretion of the committee, to enlist the services of female voices for special purposes'.
The title was changed to 'The Upper Hutt Male Voice Choir and Harmonic Society Incorporated' in mid-1946, to 'The Upper Hutt Choral Society Incorporated' in the mid-1950s, and to 'The Hutt Valley Singers' in 2004.
The choir gave its first concert on 7 December 1933 in the Cosy Theatre, Upper Hutt. The Choir gave two concerts a year for seven seasons (excepting 1935 when they gave three concerts), on the following dates:

For the final concert, the Choir was joined by the St. Patrick's College orchestra (Silverstream), conducted by Father Feehly.
