HistoryOn 6 June 1945 the Women's Guild of Pinehaven district began to purchase books, which were lent out for 6d. With these funds further books were purchased.
18 March 1947 a meeting of residents was held to establish a library under the NZ Government Country Library Service Scheme. A subscription was charged to adult residents and the books were kept in a suitcase.
In 1951 the Pinehaven Progressive Association extended its hall to include a room with independent access for the library.
In 1952 Upper Hutt opened its first library. Membership of Pinehaven Library declined 1954-1955 but then began to grow again.
In 1962 the Hutt County Council provided a library building and a grant of 50 pounds (25% of total income)and in 1966 extensions to the building.
1972 Hutt County Council provided a grant for 50% of total expenditure.
1978 Report on library prepared by Country Library Service at request of Heretaunga / Pinehaven District Community Council.
1980 The library was fully funded by the Heretaunga / Pinehaven District Community Council; subscriptions are abolished and membership is free.
1981 Pinehaven Library employed its first qualified librarian.
1983 National Library recommended becoming a branch of Upper Hutt Library.
Local government reformation in 1989 saw the library come under the Upper Hutt City Council.
A funding crisis in 1990 rallied considerable local support for the library.
Since 1995 the Pinehaven Library has been a branch of the Upper Hutt Public Library.
