Provenance
HistoryJock McEwen was a senior civil servant with the Maori Affairs and Pacific Islands Affairs Departments, 12 years as Secretary. President of the Polynesian Society, and has published various anthropological papers and the Dictionary of the Niue Language. He now lives in Upper Hutt.
He was also an author, carver and linguist, author of 'Rangitane' (1986; 2nd ed. 2002) and a former administrator of Niue Island and compiler of a dictionary of the Niuean language.
One of the founders of Orongomai Marae, a pan-tribal marae established in Upper Hutt in 1976, and of Mawai Hakona, a performance group based at the marae and very successful in competitions in the 1970s.
He was also an author, carver and linguist, author of 'Rangitane' (1986; 2nd ed. 2002) and a former administrator of Niue Island and compiler of a dictionary of the Niuean language.

J.M commented at the time of transfer that he had found these in the basement of the General Assembly Library. Possibly whakapapa recorded in Land Court Proceedings? Very fragile cannot examine closely. Possibly National Archives interest? WTU?
In 2025 March, an ephemeral item, part of acc2023/12/02, 'Funeral order of Service Jock Malcom McEwen' was moved from publication boxes into the Jock McEwen Collection. AW 18/3/2025.Custodial historyThese records were transferred as part of a general donation to the Library which included a considerable quantity of books. The donation was occasioned by Mr and Mrs McEwen's preparations to shift house in Silverstream, Upper Hutt, and material was appraised and boxed on site in haste. A representative from the Alexander Turnbull Library had visited shortly beforehand and taken the manuscript items of interest to ATL.
