DescriptionOriginal description; 'Old Te Marua bridge'.
Located just south of Plateau Road, Beechwood Lane'.
From another node; "Wooden bridge over the Mangaroa stream. Originally the main road to the Wairarapa crossed this bridge, which is immediately south of the junction between Plateau Road and State Highway 2. Replaced by concrete bridge further south c 1920's. Te Marua bridge was re-opened briefly in 1939 when a pier from the concrete bridge was washed out by flooding."
"Another bridge that was probably built in the 1920's was a single-span structure over the Mangaroa Stream, a tributary of the Hutt River, at Te Marua. Originally on the main highway, that portion of the road is now called Beechwood Lane. The Bridge is now restricted to foot traffic and has a span of 5.2 m, with a road width of 3.8 m. The main chord members of this Howe truss are 300 x 250 mm, and it rests on solid concrete abutments. It was superseded in 1928-29 by a concrete girder bridge on a new alignment."

Now a pedestrian bridge to Beechwood Lane, Te Marua.
The June 28, 2017 'Leader' said the 1933 bridge was being replaced.
The September 18 'Dominion Post' and September 23 'Upper Hutt Leader' both announced that this bridge, because of its use by troops during World War One, would be restored at an estimated cost of $330 000.
The bridge is described as a Howe truss, but has vertical members either side of midway; in a Howe truss the angled members would meet a single vertical one at midway.
