DescriptionOne of a set of 64 images from what must have been a mid-1950s film-strip presentation by Lower Hutt City Council on over 110 years of progress.
Original description:-
"As the roads spread throughout the Valley communication became easier and the produce of the farms was more easily conveyed to the markets. Life became less arduous for the landowner who could now afford a more comfortable home. This house (circa 1860) belonged to Captain Daniell. It was built of wood with wooden shingles on the roof and surrounded by a wooden picket fence, showing the great use that was made of the valuable timber which once covered so much of the Valley."
