DescriptionOne of a set of 64 images from what must have been a mid-1950s film-strip presentation by Lower Hutt City Council on over 110 years of progress.
Original description:-
"A small enterprise in the 1880's, the company had grown to a large concern by 1905, with many buildings and holding-paddocks. The frozen carcasses were at one time loaded from the wharf onto a refrigerated boat and taken for trans-shipping to larger overseas vessels."
The abattoir closed in 1981.
