DescriptionOne of a set of 64 images from what must have been a mid-1950s film-strip presentation by Lower Hutt City Council on over 110 years of progress.
Original description:-
"Large tracts of land in the foothills of the Rimutaka Ranges, where several of the Hutt's tributaries arose, such as the valley shown here, had been cleared by fire. Land such as this was highly susceptible to erosion and after exceptionally heavy rain, water would rush down the river bed bringing with it logs, tree stumps and topsoil."
