DescriptionOne of a set of 64 images from what must have been a mid-1950s film-strip presentation by Lower Hutt City Council on over 110 years of progress.
Original description:-
“Hard-working pioneers needed some relaxation. Within the first years of the founding of the two Port Nicholson colonies, regattas, race meetings, balls and levees became very popular. Many settlers had brought musical instruments with them on board ship. A piano was often an important piece of furniture in a pioneer home being a means of self entertainment for the family and neighbours. Soon several music-loving neighbours, with their treasured instruments, would begin practising together to form a small orchestra or band. The Hutt Band of the 1860's, shown in this photo, was one such group."
Unclear whether this group was titled The Hutt Band.
