DescriptionOne of a set of 64 images from what must have been a mid-1950s film-strip presentation by Lower Hutt City Council on over 110 years of progress.
Original description:-
"15. The service to Upper Hutt began on 1st February, 1876, and a further extension of the line across the Rimutaka Range to Featherston was opened on 12th October, 1878. As soon as the line started on the ascension of the foothills, embankments and cuttings became necessary. Work is shown in progress here on the Mangaroa Hill."
