'In 1900 the Upper Hutt Stationmaster was a Mr J. Gents were provided for in a detached building to the rear. A new station was opened in 1955, the old building being demolished in 1958. Private collection c.1900.' This photograph appeared in the 'Upper Hutt Leader'on November 29, 1972 (see reference letter 9/11/1999) with the caption 'Photo courtesy Miss N. Benge.' No names were given there.

By: Brian J. Pearce4th Jun 2014 11:59PMThis image probably dates from the 1890s. New Zealand Railways' Annual Report for the year ended 31 March 1900 recorded that a verandah had been fitted to the Upper Hutt Railway Station during that year.
