DescriptionImage shows May and Hector Poulson's daughter Eda in an unidentified woman's arms. Eda was born on July 6, 1928.
J.A. Hazelwood moved to live here with his daughter-in-law's family, some time after he retired; they added a flat to the home.
The site was cleared for 'professional chambers' in July 1981; the Poulsons had been 'driven out by rates' eight years earlier.
A picture of the demolition was printed in the July 14, 1981 'Leader'.
Hector Poulson had cut the totara piles from Akatarawa bush; the chimney used bricks from Hazelwood's bakehouse, and most of the wood was heart rimu. Instead of the normal timber wall linings, covered with scrim and wallpaper, the house used 'Dreadnought', similar to Gibraltar Board, but was built without the now-mandatory dwangs.
The building was occupied by the Salvation Army some time before 2013.
