" [This photograph shows the] Old Karapoti Bridge up Karapoti Road - taken from the Villa on the hill - carpark to the right of pic [not visible] - possibly in the 1990's.... Area was once Campbells Sawmills 1920's era, then Keith Lindsay's farm 1950's - 1970's era."

Flood, Karapoti; Akatarawa River West; upstream view, telephoto.

DescriptionOriginal description; 'Colour print of the Karapoti flood. In the foreground is a paddock with some small puddles. Along the back edge of the paddock there are a few beehives along the side of a fence and hedgerow. Towards the top right of the paddock is a small red one-storey building. A large tree is growing to the left of the building at the river's edge where a bridge spans the river. To the left of the picture the river is in full flood. On the far side of the river is a large bush and trees that are partially submerged. In the background is a bushclad hill.'

Picture taken with a telephoto lens; there is another version taken with a standard lens.

From Google, this seems to be the Akatarawa River West at Karapoti.

In this photo there is a large tree in the river, upstream of the bridge, to the left of the central conifer; in picture 2475, it has gone; a different flood?

After a 2005 flood, this bridge was closed to 4-wheel vehicles as unsafe; a picture of the damage was printed in the May 18 'Leader'. There was extensive decay, and repair was uneconomical. Local 4-wheel vehicles could use a shallow ford, also pictured, which had been improved.
A Google Map seen in April 2016 shows the ford alongside the bridge, which is obscured by the road overlay, but casts a shadow.
