Flood, Karapoti; Akatarawa River West; telephoto view from homestead, looking upstream.

DescriptionColoured print. Karapoti flood. In the foreground is a white picket fence. The photo is taken looking down over the fence. Directly underneath is a paddock. Edging the back of the paddock is a fence and a small red building. Behind the fence is a hedgerow. Behind the hedge is another grassed area partly submerged by the flood water. On the left is the flooded river that runs right up to the hill in the background. There is a bushy area where the flood water has gone through. A bridge spans the river in the centre. To the right of the bridge is a tall tree. The background is a bushy hill.

In this photo there is no large tree in the river, to the left of the central conifer; a different flood from some of the others?

After a 2005 flood, this bridge was closed to 4-wheel vehicles as unsafe; a picture of the damage was printed in the May 18 'Leader'. There was extensive decay, and repair was uneconomical. Local 4-wheel vehicles could use a shallow ford, also pictured, which had been improved.
