Biography
BiographyThe March 18, 1980 'Leader' printed a picture of him and his family. If he was nominated as Labour candidate for the Heretaunga electorate, advancing the extension of the motorway to relieve congestion on Fergusson Drive would be given top priority. At the time, he was head of the Labour group on the Wellington City Council and served on the New Zealand Council of the Labour Party.
He moved from Ngaio to Pinehaven (not quite in the Heretaunga electorate) at the end of January, 1981.
He represented the Heretaunga electorate from 1981 to 1990, when he was defeated by National candidate Philip McCardle, in a swing against Labour.

On January 30, 1981 he had moved from Ngaio to Wyndham Road, Pinehaven.
Undersecretary to the Minister of Transport in 1985 and 1986 and also to Minister of Works, and chairman of a parliamentary committee on road safety, in 1987.
In April 1988 he was appointed chairman of the National Roads Board.
He was Minister of Justice from 1989 to 1990 in the Fourth Labour Government.
He was defeated by National's Peter McCardle in 1990, and in May 1992 announced that he would not seek nomination in the 1993 election, but would concentrate on his Wellington legal practice, where he was a barrister.
On 24 February 2012 Jeffries was convicted, along with fellow former Justice Minister Sir Douglas Graham and two other men, of breaching the Securities Act by making untrue statements to investors in his capacity as a director of Lombard Finance.
