"I lived there 25 years ago. Then they pulled it down after the last Tennant left. Built a new house. Such a shame it obviously wasn't special enough [...] No not active long gone before we were there in the late 80s early 90s. the tea rooms part had burnt down and we were possibly in the ticket office area. Unsure really"

DescriptionTwo trains crossing at Kaitoke railway station; 1901.
At the platform is the northbound Wellington-Napier 'Mail', and in the loop is the morning Masterton-Wellington train, headed by a Wb-class locomotive.
Image has been darkened
This photograph was taken prior to the southward extension of the loop and associated provision of interlocked signals and signal box in 1902. The station building was also provided with a verandah soon after this image was obtained.
The original of this photograph is in the A.P. Godber Collection, Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington: catalogue no. APG-0006-1/2-G.
The version of this image that appears at Page 170 of the book 'UPPER HUTT - The History' (from which this picture was probably copied) is square in format, with more foreground. The book's caption states that Kaitoke was an 8-minute refreshment stop. The refreshment rooms closed in November 1952. (Information supplied by Brian Pearce).Date Taken1901
