History
HistoryThe first St Andrew's church was opened on 11 February 1933 in Tawai Street, Trentham as part of the parish of St David's Presbyterian Church, Upper Hutt. In July 1952 St Andrew's separated from St David's as became part of the parish of Heretaunga along with St Margaret's, Silverstream and Stokes Valley. Due to space constraints on the Tawai Street site a larger property was purchased on the main road (Fergusson Drive) next to Kent's nursery was purchased in 1956. A church was built on the site in 1963 using volunteer labour. The Tawai Street site was sold and the old church moved to Ward Street to become a play centre. On 1 July 1966 St Andrew's became a separate parish in its own right. Financial troubles in the 1970's were a significant factor in St Andrew's looking to forward closer relationships with other churches in Upper Hutt. On 14 March 1976 they became part of the Upper Hutt Cooperating (later Union) Parish. St Andrew's was eventually sold in 2002 . The September 24, 2003 'Leader' said two houses would be built there, and the manse was being sold separately.
The February 25, 2004 'Leader' printed a picture; the brick veneer was being removed, and the building would be transported elsewhere; possibly to the Kapiti region.
