"I used to jump off the train at Maymorn on my way home from school in the early 90's. Often I was the only passenger disembarking and they would just slow down while I jumped off".

DescriptionA southbound 88-seat Drewry articulated railcar about to halt at the east (down) platform of Maymorn railway station.
From 9 July 1978 the station was closed to all but passenger traffic.
The loop line which served this east platform was closed and lifted (removed) in the 1990s; the station building seen in the photograph was also removed.
This station was named 'Mangaroa' from its opening on 3 November 1955 until 26 January 1959 when it was renamed 'Maymorn'.

The Rimutaka Incline Railway Heritage Trust secured a 25-year 'licence to occupy' 2.5 hectares of the site in July 2005, hoping to use it as the operating base for a heritage railway; initially to Summit, and later to Cross Creek. Among other attractions, they proposed to build a Troup-designed station (a picture of his Waimate one had been printed on July 6, after they received a $19 200 grant towards preparation of plans).
