I was in H/office at the time of decimal currency changeover. We had a team to go around and assist branches that ended up with large discrepancies. Overall I think losses cost the bank about $20 k.'

PhotographerRevelle JacksonDescriptionOn the 10th July 1967, New Zealand changed currency from pounds, shillings and pence to the decimal currency that we use today.

In preparation for this change, this photo shows the training that staff at the Bank of New Zealand underwent to become familiar with the new currency.

The staff often would take part in training sessions in which "dummy money" was used and act as tellers and customers. Here, Miss Joan Shakespeare and Mr John Bath are acting as customers as Mrs Fay March stands behind the counter. The teller would handle the "currency" to a pre-arranged form which would prove them correct or incorrect.

The decimal notes in this image are "dummy money" and the pound and ten-shilling notes are authentic.Date Takenca. 1967Geotagnot specified
