George's parents arrived in New Zealand in 1842 and the family bought a farm in the Akatarawa Valley in 1894. Staglands now occupies the site. George died on 7.4.1911 and Mary on 2.10.1931. Image donated by Thelma Morgan.
The original image (second thumbnail) was scanned in colour at 1200 dots per inch; the .tif file is a huge 236 megabytes, or in .jpg format, 14.5 megabytes.
This greyscale version is brightened, with increased contrast, and the number of pixels in both directions has been halved, to 5113 by 3933 pixels; the file size is a mere 19 megabytes; in .jpg format, 5.6.
