"According to Ivan Clulee in his book on Lower North Island post offices, the post office shown was abandoned about 1943 because it was in poor condition. 'Another farmer, J. J. Maher, [who was the] MP for the area from 1949, came to the rescue by arranging alternative premises in the form of an ex-Army hut which was placed on the road frontage of his farm opposite the railway station'."
