Upper Hutt Health Centre, between Queen and Sinclair Streets.
History
HistoryThe December 11, 1979 'leader' printed a picture of a model of the building. Construction was expected to take around 12 months, after a tender was approved. Government had approved calling for tenders, and the Upper Valley Health Care Association would be calling for tenders in the new year..
The first occupants moved I n in August 1981; the official opening by the mayor took place on March 27 or 28, 1982, when 'all the facilities were operational and everyone had moved in'.
The July 2, 1997 'Leader' reported that the doctors using the building had bought it from Hutt Valley Health, who leased back parts of it. There was still access from Sinclair Street after the extensive renovations, which included a new entrance on the Queen Street side.
The doctors' syndicate sold the building at auction in April 2000, and the company was liquidated; it would be able to pay all its debts. It had received relief on general rates for the refurbishment, and related obligations had been met.
Hutt Radiology moved from Elderslea in April 2003.
In 2011 Sinclair Holdings, a group of six doctors, bought the centre, which had been leasehold for decades. The centre was expanded and refurbished in 2015, and was offered for sale in March 2016; there were three tenants; the pharmacy, now four times its previous size, Pacific Radiology, and the medical centre. Aotea Pathology had moved to CBD Towers earlier.
