DescriptionThis showroom opened in July 1982; marked 'HONDA' followed by the Homda 'H'.
Gethings' first car franchise was from Dominion Motors in 1963; Morris and Pontiac cars.
New Zealand Motor Corporation were distributors for Austin, Morris, and other British Leyland products, and Honda cars. From 1969 to (April?) 1979, Magnus Motors ran an Austin-Morris agency on the corner of King Street and Fergusson Drive. Then it was taken over by the New Zealand Motor Corporation, until December 1980, when thy closed, leaving Gethings with the Austin-Morris and Honda franchises.
By 1982, New Zealand Motor Corporation supplied British Leyland's Morrises and Rovers, and the Hondas, which dominated. because Honda supplied a relatively-limited range of vehicles, Gethings switched to Mitsubishi in 1989.
