Support worker in the Save the Children Fund shop;
Management committee member and past chairperson of the Citizens' Advice Bureau (she was made a life member in October 2001);

Hapai Club; present at its opening, 1966; president for 20 years (or more) from 1981;
Member of the support committee of the Silverstream Home of Compassion;
Member of the Modern Approach to Social Health committee.
Heretaunga College 40th anniversary committee member, 1994.
She had received one of the first four Upper Hutt Civic Awards in April 1985, for voluntary community services.
Made a companion of the Queen's Service Order in June 1988.
