Heretaunga rest home, 2 Field Street; formerly Heretaunga-Pinehaven District Council offices

HistoryBegan as the Heretaunga-Pinehaven District Council offices; the district became part of Upper Hutt City late in 1989.
The building might have been incorporated in a proposed 'historic village' as a visitor centre; it can be seen in models of the proposal from July 1991 and June 1991, but the Historic Village and Heritage Park Society could not come to terms with the city council, and was eventually wound up.
In June 1990 Hutt Independent Boys' School was given permission to use the former Heretaunga-Pinehaven District Council building and playing fields in Field Street, Silverstream, until June 27, 1995. They needed re space, and found it a Trentham Racecourse, opening there as Hutt International Boys' School at the beginning of 1994.
The building was sold to Glen Tomlinson, a Blenheim rest home operator, at the end of 1994, for $365 000; he planned to convert it into a 40-bed rest home, and to add 13 self-contained villas. From an October 1995 article; the owners were developer Greg Tomlinson, from Blenheim, and Judith and Bryce Johnson, of Akatarawa. The rest home was a first stage, and had living quarters for 39. The building had been extended from 700 square metres to 2000. Two more stages of expansion were planned.
Opened as 'Heretaunga Home and Village' on December 10, 1995; currently (2016) Heretaunga Lifestyle Care and Village.
