The college had raised funds to sponsor two Bosnian students for two years.
A large group from the school had been pictured in 1996, about to cycle form Cambridge to Wellington as part of the fund-raising effort. the sponsored ride raised almost $40 000.
A 16-year-old Muslim boy would be arrive in in the next fortnight; the other had not yet been selected.
Sally Trench, Britain's 1995 Catholic Woman of the Year, was director of Project Spark, which took convoys of food trucks to Bosnia every two months, to feed street kids. Father Walls had read the charity's annual report, which challenged New Zealand schools to offer places to Bosnian children.
She addressed the college's first assembly of the year, during a brief visit to New Zealand..
