DescriptionPrinted in greyscale in the ‘Leader’ on July 16, 1997 in an ‘Industrious Upper Hutt’ supplement, with a second picture, showing the site as seen from Kingsley Heights.
The mill began as a Parapine subsidiary, sold in 1995. WPI had been Winstone Pulp International. At this stage it employed 56 people, including engineers, an electrician, saw doctors and timber tradesmen, and sales staff.
The mill's buildings have now almost-completely gone.
Logs came from as far away as Wanganui and the Wairarapa.
Right of centre, the semicircle probably housed the upper wheel of a band-saw; probably the only saw used to cut timber to cross-section sizes. Elsewhere, timber was planed, edges were rounded, preservatives added, and timber was dried.
