DescriptionPrinted in greyscale in the ‘Leader’ on July 16, 1997 in an ‘Industrious Upper Hutt’ supplement.
Wellington was one of three Foodstuffs co-operatives, and covered the North Island south of Wairoa, Taumarunui and Tūrangi; the others were Auckland and South Island. The warehouse was as big as three football fields, and employed 100 people; it handled 11 500 line items of grocery, distributed by nine Foodstuffs trucks Headquarters staff brought the Kiln Street total staff to 276.
The warehouse went into action on November 2, 1981, after a weekend move from Peterkin Street, Wingate.
The March 1, 2017 'Dominion Post' announced that Foodstuffs were selling the property by tender; they were considering relocating office staff elsewhere in the valley, and leasing part of the space for its bottling plant and temporary office space.
May 2017; new owners were Farrah's, food exporters, making tortillas and wraps; identical stories in 'Leader' and 'Dominion Post'.
