Biography
BiographyHe joined the Upper Hutt College Board of Governors as Maidstone Intermediate School's representative around 1970; when he retired from the Board in August 1980 he had been parents' representative, and had been chairman for four years.
Doug was the last chairman of the Hutt Valley Drainage Board, when it was superseded in 1989; He had been a city councillor since 1973 and deputy mayor 1980-1992.
He had been a president of the Upper Hutt Valley Community Arts Council.
Doug Ormrod and Graham Ockwell were trading as Rimutaka Builders in 1979.
He had been president of the New Zealand Traffic Institute.
He had been heavily involved in Rimutaka Baptist Church, which he had helped build,
He was president of Upper Hutt Rotary, mid-1991 to mid-1992.
Gwen was elected president of the Inner Wheel in 1991.
The November 7, 1994 'Leader' reported that he had been involved in a collision at Tauherenikau, taken to Masterton Hospital, and flown to Wellington Hospital, where he died, near midnight; he was 65. It printed an obituary. The November 14, 1994 issue covered his funeral, and printed further tributes.
