DescriptionPrinted on page 1 of the September 20, 1972 'Leader', with a second picture (mirror-imaged) of the proposed interior. The headline was '$3m Development for City Shoppers'.
The 3-acre site would include an 8-storey office block, possibly including a cinema, 143 000 square feet/13 300 square metres of shopping on two levels, with the major tenants being a branch of James Smith's, a department store, occupying 40 000 square feet/3700 square metres on two floors, a supermarket and variety store of 18 000 square feet/1670 square metres, and 30-40 additional shops; there would also be parking for about 160 cars, and the council would provide off-street parking for another 325. Construction would start n 1973, and opening was scheduled for September 1974
