The project was undertaken as the written component of work towards the Queen's Award, an international award for 15-20 years old women that aims to encourage leadership qualities and service to others. Mann subsequently received her Queen's Award in 1991 from the Governor General, Dame Cath Tizard, at a service at Government House.
