Christine Chesterfield "My family lived through this,we lived at the top end of Elmslie Rd . Dad broke his leg when a piece of road churning down the top of the road knocked him off his feet and his leg was jammed between the road and gully. Mum was a nurse at the time and had to do call outs. I'll never forget the memories of that day. The whole area changed overnight including our place, the back of our garden sloping up to the hill at the back had moved drastically towards the house."
Kate Turner "Christine - we'd moved into our home in Pinehaven Road 3 wks prior to the flood! Had emigrated from England and it was going to be our first Christmas away from family in England.
Lost both bridges over our creek so we were "marooned" for a while but no personal damage or to our house so we were v.thankful. Elmslie suffered a lot more than our road."
Christine Chesterfield "Hi Kate, I hadn't realised you were living in pinehaven rd at the time. Must've been very scary for you when the floods hit. It's good in a way to hear other people's stories of the flood. A bad time but we all survived through the ordeal. Nice to hear from you. I remember Elmslie was so bad, so much debris and fallen washed down logs and trees. Thank goodness you were ok and your home survived. Xx"
Kate Turner Christine" yes, at the time it made me feel like i wanted to go home but I'm glad we stayed.
