DescriptionThe nearer gun has the markings of the Royal Arsenal near the breech; its second badge has not been identified, as it is out of focus in a picture of the markings, and the start of the Latin date is also illegible. It is described in a history of Trentham Camp as a brass 24-pounder, made in the Royal Gun Factory in 1855. They had arrived in New Zealand in 1861 and were used in the first Taranaki campaign of the New Zealand wars. The pair were at either side of the officers' mess entrance.
The carriages are for transport, not for firing.
