Caption reads: 'The John Downing Homestead in Whiteman's Valley which was used by Mrs. Downing as a Post Office from the time of her appointment as Postmistress when the office was opened on 23 March 1897 until it was closed on 1 Jan 1919.
An official enamel sign to indicate the Post Office was attached to the entrance gate-way and it is still in the possession of the family.'
