Biography
BiographyFrom an August 9, 1988 'Leader' advertisement headed 'International status now available to New Zealand I T F Tae Kwo Do stylists' and wwth the New Zealand Tae-Kwon-Do Academy and International Taekwon-Do Federation badges:-
"In search for true International status, Mr Hemana, now 4th Dan and Chief Instructor for New Zealand, has spent the past 18 months since his resignation from Master Yuns Tae Kwon Do, and has now finally put together a package whereby New Zealanders can obtain International recognition within New Zealand.
Having attended a Seminar in Spain in November, 1987 and the World Championships in April this year in Budapest, which had confirmed his doubts why New Zealand was not attending such tournaments in the past along with other matters concerning New Zealands stance and recognition with the world governing body. Whilst in Budapest Mr Hemana was successful in inviting Master Dark Jung Tae, 8th Dan Black Belt from I.T.F. Headquarters in Austria to conduct an Instructors course here in New Zealand, in Upper Hutt (Trentham Race Course) from 15th August-26th August. Attending this course are members from the N.Z Tae Kwon Do Academy, who have I.T.F. status and members who recently resigned from Master Yun's Tae Kwon Do, both from Australia and New Zealand and who are about to regain their International status. Having Master Park conduct such a course, gives New Zealand a better chance to compete at the next Inter-Continental Championships to be held in Malaysia, July, 1989. Approximately 12 countries will be attending and then plan for the World Championships in Canada in 1990.
Mr Hemana invites all I.T.F. Stylists and parents to the Seminar for a discussion, should they feel it is necessary, as he feels that there will always be those who will continue to be exploited unless they are fully informed."
The advertisement six fully pledged branchs of I T F within the Wellington region.
An article and picture from the event were printed in the October 4, 1988 'Leader'.
Recollect has pictures of Harry after his returns from Spain (1987) and Budapest (1988), and later ones after learning a revolutionary 'tuite' technique in 1992, and after being awarded the I T F's International Star of Excellence by the sport's founder, General Choi Hong Hi, in 1992.
The accompanying article said He had been an Army corporal, serving in Malaya 1961-63, Borneo 1965-67 and Viet Nam 1969-71; it was only in 1997 that general Service Medals were awarded for Malaya; he was pictured on September 10, after a reunion.
An article on March 18, 1998 said he was a taxi owner; he had been training in 'thought field therapy'; a system of self-applied sequences of acupressure, for 18 moths, and recently returned from a San Francisco seminar.
