DescriptionThis boiler was made by a John Thompson subsidiary in Hamilton; it was rated at 35 000 pounds/16 000 kg per hour from and at 100 degrees C; noticeably less at its working pressure of 250 pounds per square inch (17 bars).
This picture shows the boiler before work started. There is a natural-gas/oil burner at its left end. The angled tube at top centre carried flue gas from the back of the boiler to the 53-metre chimney outside.
