DescriptionThere were three rows of mills with pairs of rolls 60 inches (1.52 metres) wide by 22 inches (560 mm) diameter. They were driven by motor of 300 or 500 horsepower (225 or 375 kilowatts) and there were usually three mills driven by one motor; a gearbox drove a shaft 10 inches (254 mm)in diameter, and a pinion on the shaft drove the large gears seen here; they were mounted on the back roll, which did not move. smaller gears at the far end drove the front roll, which ran at 10%-different speed, and its position could be adjusted to give different thicknesses of rubber.Date Taken2007
