Enid Thelma Wilson

Biography

BiographyEnid Wilson was the daughter of Frank and Annie Wilson, Frank was a former Premier of Western Australia.

1915-1916: Trained as a Kindergarten Teacher

1917: Became the Director of Peir Street Centre, a Kindergarten in Perth.

1919-1928: Principal of Free Kindergarten Union of West Australia. She was associated with the League of Women Voters.

1928-1948: Principal of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Union. During this time she traveled with her long term companion Ted (Edwina) Scott, they visited America, Canada, Holland and England.

1932:Started some Kindergarten of the Air Sessions, eurythmic for children and staff, Mothers Clubs for social and educational assistance.

1933: Enid's long time companion, Ted Scott was awarded an OBE.

1950-1973 Enid and Ted brought some land (now mainly Riversdale Road, Clouston Park) and started a market garden growing parsley (for butchers), Otaki pink carnations, herbs, plums, beans and cacti. They were conscious of 'sun spots' so wore long sleeves, hats and gloves. The gardens were called "Wilscot Gardens". They also had a weekend cottage at Judgeford/Moonshine.

1973: Enid and Ted decided they were a bit old for all the work Wilscot Gardens entailed, so they moved to the Masonic Lodge Home in Woburn, Lower Hutt, however they hated the regimentation and bells and ended up buying number 8 of the new flats being built in Mangaroa Hill Road. Two years later, in 1975, Ted Scott passed away. After this Enid's condition deteriorated and she went into Wesleyhaven and Johnswood hospital.

1994: Enid passes away peacefully
