HistoryNamed the Heretaunga Lions, the club was officially chartered by district governor Robbie Hinde on the 23rd May 1992. The first club president was Andreana Smith.
While the club was being established, they were hosted by the Rimutaka Lions who were responsible for guiding the new club up to chartering stage.
The nucleus of the club comes from the disestablished Upper Hutt Lioness Club.
Seven Lions Clubs were active in Upper Hutt in 1992, and prospective members had the choice of joining either a men's club, women's club, or mixed club. Senior citizens were able to join the Pakeke Lions and younger people the Leos.
