Provenance
History
Born in 1929, of Ngāi Tūhoe descent, Heemi Kara arrived in the Wellington area in 1960.
He and his wife both worked for General Motors; when the factory moved to Upper Hutt, they decided to build a house in the city.
Heemi was involved in the Māwai Hakona kapa haka group and Ōrongomai Marae.
