DescriptionCaption: Upper Hutt's first and longest-serving marriage celebrant is giving up her marriage licence.

Osteo-arthritis and trouble with her spine now make it difficult for her to stand comfortably for very long and she has decided to give up her role as marriage celebrant sooner rather than later.

She adds that she was planning to retire soon anyway as next year she will turn 80.

The following week's 'Leader reported that she had become New Zealand's first recipient of a "family values award" from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Totara Park on Saturday. With her was the church's state president, Douglas Meiklan.

The award was regularly presented overseas but this was the first time in New Zealand. Isabel was the only recipient from the Wellington region.
