A & P show; audience listening to president, Bob Christie; cropped print.

Details

PhotographerRevelle JacksonDescriptionRevelle Jackson pictures are normally square-format. The collection has two prints from this negative; One may be full-width, and shows the man reading at left in full, and speaker Bob Christie at right, with TV or movie cameras on a scaffolding tower in the background; but its height is 76% of its width. This one has lost part of the man at left, and his feet, and enough has been cropped rom the top to eliminate the cameras. Speaker Bob Christie and a scaffolding tower with TV or movie cameras have gone from the right; this image is no more than 70% of the original width, and half the original height.

This photo was printed in reverse so may be a proof copy; but several exhibition prints have turned out to be mirror images; the current image has been corrected.
Its original description suggests that seated 5th from right may be Keith Maher, local farmer.

Print P3-412-1641 lists the following:-

Audience of men and women and children seated listening to a speech at A & P show. Film or TV camera visible on scaffolding.
Speaker, Bob Christie
4th from left, front row, Frank Kitts, mayor of Wellington 1956-1974; 9th from left front row, Percy Dowse, Mayor of Lower Hutt 1950-1970
The visitors' book for the 1998 and 2000 exhibitions of Revelle Jackson's photographs lists both Percy Dowse and Eric Marsh (wrongly) as ninth from left (and Frank Kitts as fourth from right; but that may be from a reversed print).Date Taken26th February 1966 Last edited by: Don McLeod
