Details
DescriptionSix Wairarapa-class railcars (RM4 to RM9) - widely known as 'Tin Hares' - were built by New Zealand Government Railways' Hutt Workshops in 1936; they were specially designed to enable them to negotiate the Rimutaka Incline. Their back wheels were unusually large to provide clearance for the final drive when traversing the Rimutaka Incline's centre rail.
In September 1992 this railcar was leased to the Pahiatua Railcar Society; the organisation is currently restoring it.
