Description Names of staff were provided by Brian Pearce .
This picture was printed in the 'Leader' on October 4, 1983; the men were looking at plans for a new gymnasium/community centre, which would be built between the changing rooms at left, and the Blockhouse.
Architects Wm Pearson and Associates had drawn up plans and specifications, and tenders would be called.
The Education Department would provide funds for a standard-sized gymnasium; the college could provide $30 000 towards a facility enlarged for community use, and fund-raising for the remaining $109 000 was starting.
The Blockhouse is visible at right.
At left are changing rooms; the new community sports centre was going to be built between that building and the Blockhouse, so as to give public access via Blockhouse Lane.
Apparently, the changing rooms were demolished, and replaced by new ones incorporated in the gymnasium.
The May 17, 1988 'Leader' reported that an oily film was forming on the rubberized vinyl flooring, and no cure had been found; the floor would be replaced over Christmas, at a cost of around $30 000.
The gym burnt down on November 7, 1997, and the replacement opened in October 1998.
