Gerry Marshall had started business in 1956, on the eastern corner of Main and Logan streets in October 1956, crossed main Street to the Baigent's garage building in 1963, and moved to this building in 1970; a proposed pedestrian precinct would have made moving goods difficult. The council had offered the site for around $40 000, and the premises cost $80 000.

The building's upper floor had started as a ten-pin bowling alley, which was succeeded by a series of gymnasiums, including a Les Mills branch.
In the October 17, 2015 'Dominion Post' the Lifestyle Health and Fitness Club announced it was going into liquidation; it had begun in Lower Hutt in 1990, and added Upper Hutt in 2003. The same article appeared in the October 21 'Leader'.

Traffic lights controlled the intersection prior to installation of a roundabout.

The parts of Station Street and Princes Street south of Fergusson Drive were re-named Station Crescent, when Woolworths car park was extended across Station Street.
