Details
DescriptionThe 'Leader' published five colour images and an article on October 24; there had been a Friday night dinner at which TV's 'Pioneer Family', the 'Feyens' were present; after Saturday breakfast they were driven by horse and carriage to Trentham racecourse, where the first race was named in honour of the late John Golder, a descendant of the original John, and a racing columnist. There were around 1500 visitors over the weekend; many in costume.
The Feyens were identified from the 'Leader' pictures.
Two cakes were baked, with one carved to the shape of the cottage; the combination was iced by six members of the Upper Hutt Cake Decorators' Guild.
On October 24 the 'Leader' printed 5 pictures from the celebrations.
