Craig Kitchen:
My grandparents bought their section at 52 Whitemans Road off Mr Godber, starting building in 1945 & lived there til early 2000s. Would be near to that bulge on the left. Mum recalls his house being full of Maori carvings, used to be neighbours. My grandfather was also a railways employee...

PhotographerGodber, Albert PercyDescription1921 photograph of Silverstream by prolific local amateur photographer Albert Percy Godber. The two women in the picture are his wife Laura and daughter Phyllis. They are standing on the corner where Whitemans Road rises up the hill to become Chatsworth Road. The Godbers' Silverstream property lies across the small bridge to the left. Godber was a railways employee who produced thousands of images of New Zealand life and activity, many of them featuring railways and trains. In the distance at left can be seen four identical cottages in Kiln Street, built to house workers at the local brick factory. These are still standing.
